Principal's Message

Hello ECW Family and Friends,

Welcome to Emily C. Watkins website. Please click through the various links and view our pictures to learn more about who we are and what we do.

We have made it through the first quarter in the 2022–23 school year at our temporary location of Leon Godchaux Junior high. Faculty, staff, students, and parents have done a wonderful job adapting to our surroundings and continuing to maintain who Emily C. Watkins Lions are and how we do school. During the first quarter, we hosted activities such as Contract Signing Night, Open House (A Walk in their Shoes)/Blood Drive, our First Quarter Awards Ceremony/Parent Teacher Conferences, and our very first Pep Rally. Thank you to the faculty, students and family Lions who have supported the various events!

I understand that as a community we are still on shaky ground as some are still displaced and eager to return to a sense of normalcy. While others are getting reacclimated to their repaired dwelling places, at ECW we’re all in this transition journey together. I’m grateful for our temporary school building, yet I am energized for the renovations that are being made to our permanent building.

My vision for ECW is to focus on children first by not only addressing academic needs but also social and emotional needs. In education, our primary focus is educating students to be well rounded decision makers for the future. Everything we do should be guided by our mission and vision to positively impact our children’s lives. Everyone in the ECW community plays a role in this, from children to adults. We will all play our part and work together to increase academic achievement, build a harmonious school culture, and a safe place for each child to develop into the best version of themselves.

I continue to be excited to lead ECW through this time of rebuilding, recovery, and the beginning of our journey to excellence.

Respectfully,

Dr. Tania P. Coleman
